August Releases

AUGUST RELEASES
KILLAH PRIEST - "THE OFFERING" - GOOD HANDS RECORDS - AUG. 21
Longtime Wu Tang Clan affiliate and Brooklyn, New York native, Killah Priest returns with a long awaited, highly anticipated album called “The Offering”. Best known for his life and career altering appearance on the track “B.I.B.L.E” from GZA’s “Liquid Swords” album, his classic debut “Heavy Mental”, and for his intensely spiritual lyrics loaded with metaphors and religious references, the former Sunz Of Man group member brings his passion for quality rhymes back on this new release. Priest delivers a monster of an album that features a star studded supporting cast including Nas, Immortal Technique, Ras Kass, Canibus, Kurupt, Hell Razah and more. Recent group collaboration projects such as The Black Market Militia and The Horsemen Project have had fans foaming at the mouth for Priest’s newest solo effort, and “The Offering” is sure to satisfy their hunger by showcasing why he has been considered one of the top lyricists in the game for years. Killah Priest will be featured on BET’s “Rap City” the week of Street Date!

BRAND NUBIAN - "TIME'S RUNNIN' OUT" - SOUND OF DISSENT - AUG. 21
Brand Nubian formed after Grand Puba’s original group, Masters Of Ceremony, split up. Their first single “Brand Nubian” dropped in 1989 and their debut album, “One For All”, was released in 1990. Critically acclaimed, the album drew fire for militant rhetoric on tracks like “Drop the Bomb” and “Wake Up”. The video for the single “Wake Up” was also banned from MTV. The singles “Slow Down”, “All For One” and “Wake Up” all became hits on Billboard’s Hot Rap Tracks chart in 1991. After pursuing individual careers, Grand Puba, Lord Jamar, Sadat X and DJ Alamo reunited in 1997 after contributing a song to the “Soul in the Hole” soundtrack, titled “A Child Is Born” as well as releasing the underground single “Rockin’ It”. The success of both songs propelled the group to record their second album with all four original members. Most people believed that the album entitled “The Foundation” from 1998 was their reunion album, but it is in fact the “Time’s Running Out” album, unheard and shelved until now that would lead the quartet back into the recording studio to recapture and reclaim the iconic sound of the “One For All” album. Featuring production handled by Puba, Jamar, Alamo with help from DITC legend Lord Finesse and Slick Rick producer/DJ Vance Wright, this is must have for Brand Nubian and the vintage Hip Hop collectors in general.

C.L. SMOOTH - "THE OUTSIDER" - BLACKHEART ENTERTAINMENT - AUG. 21
CL Smooth, half of the legendary and influential "golden era" Hip Hop duo Pete Rock & CL Smooth, created many classic rap anthems during the 90s including “T.R.O.Y.”, "Straighten It Out", and "Lots Of Lovin". CL has one of most recognizable voices in all of Hip Hop and he’s back to bless the mic once again. After the pair split in 1995, CL Smooth remained musically inactive for about 10 years, only appearing on five isolated tracks with his former partner and declined even to appear as a guest on other artists' albums, with the exception of a track called "Only the Strong Survive" with DJ Krush. Recently, however, he has contributed vocals to songs by AZ and Dipset affiliate JR Writer. He released his debut solo album, “American Me” early this year. This CD, “The Outsider” is considered a companion piece to that album, further showcasing his relevance with a bunch of new tracks, remixes by J Period, Drawzilla and B Rock, plus live versions of some of his old mid 90s classics. Guests vocalists include Butta Verses (De La Soul associate), JR Writer, Scales of Nappy Roots, and Young Breed. “The Outsider” is hosted by So So Def’s "Da Franchize" DJ Shakim of the Heavy Hitters and Super Friends DJ Crews, and with one listen, you’ll realize that CL’s voice still has the impact it did when it first was heard on the "All Souled Out" EP back in 1991.

Havoc

NATURE SOUNDS TO RELEASE EAGERLY-ANTICIPATED
DEBUT FROM HAVOC OF MOBB DEEP THE KUSH TO BE RELEASED
ON SEPTEMBER 18TH, 2007
NY, NY-----Nature Sounds Records announces the eagerly-anticipated debut, The Kush, from Mobb Deep’s Havoc.

Havoc is one half of the musical force that rap fans have to come to know and love as Mobb Deep. For the past 14-years, Havoc (along with partner Prodigy) have become one of Hip-Hop’s most influential entities and has released a string of indelible LP’s including acclaimed classics like The Infamous, Hell On Earth and Amerikaz Nightmare. To date, Mobb Deep has sold over 4 millions records.

While Havoc’s partner Prodigy has already leaped into the solo-realm, Havoc has previously not done so due to a hectic recording schedule with Mobb Deep where he has produced some of the most essential Hip-Hop tracks of the last decade (“Shook Ones Pt.2,” “Drop A Gem On Em,” “Quiet Storm,” and “The Learning” among just a handful of classics) and due to the fact that he is one of Hip-Hop’s most sought after producers (as he has previously worked with a who’s who list of artists including: Nas, Capone & Noreaga, Foxy Brown, 50 Cent, LL Cool J, Mariah Carey, Lloyd Banks, The Game, Jadakiss, Lil Kim, Method Man, Notorious B.I.G., etc) as Havoc reaffirms “I was always ready (to drop a solo-album), but the reason why it took me so long is because the timing wasn’t right. I was always working on Mobb Deep material and working with other artists and I used allot of the material I was going to use for a solo-LP for Mobb Deep records.” However, that all changes with the release of Havoc’s debut, The Kush, (the prequel to his official solo-LP) on 9-18-07.

Havoc’s debut has been buzzed about for quite some time and is eagerly anticipated by the group’s fan base and fans of the duo’s hardcore brand of NY hip-hop. Over the years, Havoc’s eerily chilling production has influenced countless producers, set the bar for NYC producers and become the identity for the “Queensbridge sound.” That trend continues with The Kush, as the LP is entirely self-produced by Havoc and as he laments he’s keeping it grimy “basically, The Kush is dark and gutter, I really wanted to go that direction.”

Forsaking littering The Kush with numerous guest-appearances, Havoc choose to keep things entirely in-house and make it an all-family endeavor by design states Havoc “Besides Prodigy, I did not want a bunch of big stars on it, as it would have taken away from the real objective of the LP, which is grimy and down to earth.”

After working with virtually every big name artist in the Urban genre and creating some of the most timeless music Hip-Hop fans have had the pleasure to lay ears upon, Havoc did not need to step out of his zone to stay motivated for The Kush, as he states “the thing that keeps me motivated is just my love of music, I just love to create. The Kush represents me as an individual and my growth as a producer and lyricist.”

The Kush; another Queensbridge classic!

Strong Arm Steady

WEST COAST HIP-HOP CREW STRONG ARM STEADY PREPS DEBUT STUDIO LP DEEP HEARTED
Strong Arm Steady is a West Coast super-group, consisting of the cream of California’s underground hip-hop scene, namely Phil the Agony, Mitchy Slick and Krondon. Over the years, Strong Arm Steady has toured relentlessly and pounded the mixtape circuit for years, independently distributing over 200,000 mixtapes worldwide. Raekwon

WU-TANG CLAN’S RAEKWON READIES NEW LP, ICEWATER: POLLUTED WATER
Raekwon of the Wu-Tang Clan to unveil the long awaited debut from the Ice Water clique on August 28th via Babygrande Records

The highly anticipated album features Method Man, Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Three Six Mafia, Remy Ma, Jagged Edge & more.

Under the tutelage of Wu-Tang Clan’s resident chef Raekwon, the four-man crew of Polite, Stomach, P.C. (Paulie Caskets) and D.C. (Donnie Cash) marks Staten Island’s return to prominence as a hotbed for fresh, credible talent. Die hard fans may remember Ice Water from their appearances on several tracks on Raekwon’s last album, 2002’s “The Lex Diamond Story,” as well as their opening stints for the Chef on his subsequent 30+ state tour. As Raekwon confirms, “We knew these cats had potential way back, but the timing wasn’t right. I always kept a radar on dudes, and when I felt they was ready mentally and lyrically, I helped ‘em get on.”

Raekwon compares his protracted development of the group to raising pitbulls: “I’m training these pits. I’ve got them on the treadmill, and I’m beating ‘em, feedin’ ‘em hot sauce and steaks, so they’re ready for this industry.”

Honed and focused, Ice Water’s debut, Raekwon presents…Ice Water: ”Polluted Water,” will finally be released on August 28th on Babygrande Records, home to such renowned and critically acclaimed talent as
Hi-Tek, GZA, Jedi Mind Tricks, Immortal Technique and more. Raekwon states, “Babygrande recognized that Wu is a brand, and we’ve got so many different divisions of rappers around us.”

But is Ice Water really ready for the spotlight?

The veteran multi-platinum selling MC speaks earnestly, justifying the time he’s taken to refine the quartets innate skills: “I can’t put my name on anything that I feel is not on my level. These dudes are on my level, that’s why I pushed for the project; I believe in them.” A-listers such as Busta Rhymes, Rick Ross, Remy Ma, Three Six Mafia and Jagged Edge believed too, appearing on a number of the album’s tracks, which also features appearances from Rae himself and Method Man, along with production by such renowned producers as Scram Jones, Jagged Edge and EZ-Elpee. According to Rae, the collaborations weren’t just a result of Rae’s industry stature: “Yea I pushed a couple of buttons. Busta Rhymes, he’s a good friend of ours; but he knew where these dudes was at. Nobody would represent these guys if they didn’t have a good taste in they mouth about dudes”

Honing their craft for over a decade, Ice Water has paid their dues. Indeed, the release of "Polluted Water" marks both the return and rebirth of Staten Island hip-hop. The significance of the group’s long awaited emergence from the Wu-Tang Clan’s very own Shaolin stomping ground is not lost on Master Chef Raekwon: “At the end of the day, I knew I’d never build another dynasty with eight or nine dudes. But these dudes’ chemistry is perfect. This is the next dynasty.”

Raekwon presents…Ice Water: “Polluted Water” hits stores August 28th, 2007.

August Releases

TRAFFIC ENTERTAINMENT'S AUGUST RELEASES

AZ - The Memphis Sessions
Fresh off his critically-acclaimed album "The Format", AZ returns once again to bless his fans with a unique offering entitled "The Memphis Sessions", a two disc set where each disc stands on its own. Disc One combines AZ's effortless flow with some of the most funky and soulful tracks you'll come across. The second disc is comprised of all new, never released AZ cuts that sound as good on the streets as they do in the club. The result is pure start to finish listening pleasure for the audience as AZ's most popular acapellas are blended with beats reminiscent of 1970's Memphis. The success of Guru's "Jazzmatazz" albums proves that combining Hip Hop with other genres of music is a cutting-edge theme that's bound to be more common in the future.

Raekwon - "House Of Wax: The Vatican Mixtape Volume III"
The material on "House Of Wax" is older (that vintage Wu/RZA sound), and has been previously never heard or released. Rae hand picked these joints, 31 tracks strong and purposely left untitled... featuring RZA production and guest shots from Wu Tang brethren, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Old Dirty Bastard, Masta Killa as well as Hip Hop royalty Havoc (Mobb Deep), Fat Joe & Smif N' Wessun. As long as Rae sustains such momentum and relies on the RZA for the majority of "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II", he could have another classic album in the books. Until then, "House Of Wax" is a nice appetizer until The Chef cooks up his main course.
